Where the Wild Things Grow

A Madeiran Oasis

This is one of my favorite places. The scent of the various plants instantly transports me back to childhood summers spent climbing guava trees and exploring my parents' garden. My late mother, an amateur gardener, filled our garden with a symphony of fragrant flowers. Even now, the sounds of crickets and geckos evoke memories of those humid summers after the monsoon rains: eating pakoras with mint chutney, playing with friends, those carefree days before smartphones and social media.
